Preparing for your Appointment

What to Wear

Comfortable, loose fitting clothing is best. Many of the acupuncture points I select are below the elbows and knees, so access to these areas may be needed. Please dress accordingly, or bring a t-shirt and shorts to change into.

If access to areas such as the back or lower abdomen are necessary, a gown or drape may be provided.

You will never be asked to fully undress under any circumstances.

What to Expect

Genki Acupuncture is located within the Portage Arts Lofts building, on the third floor (Wildlight Yoga). Both stairs and an ADA accessible elevator are available for use. There are two multi-stall bathrooms on the same floor.

If you are driving, be prepared to arrive 10-15 minutes early to find street parking.

Come prepared to discuss your medical history and condition(s) to be treated. Please visit our FAQ page to learn more about acupuncture (both traditional and non-invasive) and moxibustion. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to ask them during your appointment.

Before Treatment

If you are a new patient, please fill out your intake paperwork and consent forms prior to your appointment.

Make sure you’ve eaten something in the last few hours - a light snack is fine.

Avoid caffeine, energy drinks, and other stimulants at least 2-3 hours before your appointment. Similarly, avoid alcohol and other recreational substances that may dehydrate you and inhibit your nervous system.

Be sure to use the restroom before your appointment. There is one on-site if needed.

After Treatment

Stay hydrated, and rest as much as possible after your appointment. Avoid strenuous activity or exercise, light walking or stretching is fine.

You may feel sore, achy, tired, or emotional after your treatment - these are all normal sensations. Effects like these are better with rest, and usually do not exceed 24 hours post-treatment.

During your appointment, we will discuss your personalized treatment plan. Monitor any changes in your condition, and be prepared to discuss them the next time we meet. Please know that acupuncture has cumulative effects- multiple, consistent sessions yield the best results, especially for chronic issues.
